Wheel

Roulette is believed to have originated in France in the 17th or 18th century. It also had some relation to some of the English as well as Italian games played during the time. The game is considered to be a mixture of different European games, but it was first created as a single big game in France. Some people consider that the game was actually taken from China and it came through the Dominican Monks. The American version of the game has also originated from the French version.

Like the present day American Roulette, the original French game consisted of a single and a double zero that gives the house a higher advantage. It was in 1843 that the Roulette wheel with a single zero was developed. It was accomplished by a German casino so as to compete with other casinos. This helped in lowering the House Edge, thus giving the players, little favorable odds. This alteration by the casino became a huge hit with players.

Now the single zero table has become the standard in the Europe version of the game and they are quite popular with the players. Even though the American version is played widely in the US, most of the major casinos always have European Tables.

History of American Roulette

In the early American wheels there were 28 numbers against today's 36 numbers, and the two zeros. In place of the zeros there were also wheels with American Eagle. Gambling, money and gold are closely related. It was the Gold Rush of California that sent American Roulette to the top.

Rules of American Roulette

Present day American Roulette Table has numbers from 1 to 36 with a single and a double zero. The game has House Edge of 5.26%, which is comparatively higher than the 2.7% House Edge of a European Table. There are some other minor differences between the two versions of the game, like the use of chip rake in the European table and the difference in chip colors. However, there are a number of things that are common to both the Roulette tables like the spinner wheel and cloth table. The bet can be placed on any individual number from 1 to 36 or a combination of numbers or on other features like color - Red / Black or Odd / Even numbers. The bet can also be placed on particular columns or lines of numbers or any of the 3 sets of dozens.

The wheel is rotated when the betting is over and the slot on which the ball lands decides the winning wager. All the tables have their own lowest and highest bets, so the house always makes some kind of profit. The growth of Internet has enabled players to play both the versions of Roulette online.
